Potbelly Fundraiser | Philmont Garage Sale

Hello Troop 1 - Two fundraiser opportunities for our troop to support outdoor activities and high adventure.

Potbelly fundraiser: This one is easy! Share the attached flyer with your friends and neighbors. All sales at the 2130 Ford Parkway Potbelly sandwich shop from 4:30-7:30 PM on Wednesday May 29 will benefit Troop 1. Please let people know that they do NOT need the physical flyer, they can show it on their phone or say they are there to support Troop 1.

Philmont Garage Sale: The Philmont 2025 crew is holding a garage sale at Minnehaha United Methodist Church on Saturday June 1 from 8AM through 1PM (or until we run out of items!). Philmont crew members should look for items they can sell in the sale to benefit the group, and should plan on being present to help with the sale. The crew is also welcoming donations of items for the sale, from anyone in the Troop who wants to support the high adventure crew. Items for the garage sale can be dropped off Friday night or early Saturday morning (7:30AM). For Friday drop-offs, contact me so that we can ensure someone will be able to meet you at MUMC to secure the items you are donating.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend - and don't forget about the service hours opportunities to honor our Veterans! If you are unable to participate in any Memorial Day service opportunities, please consider registering for flag PICK UP at Fort Snelling National Cemetery - the 16,000 flags to be placed at gravesites this weekend need to be picked up again NEXT weekend, and the group organizing this is in need of volunteers to assist. Upcoming Meetings and Events

Hello scouts - Following up from tonight's Patrol Leaders Council: A few upcoming events to note. This is a long list, please read carefully - it's a busy schedule for the near future!

Saturday May 25/Sunday May 26: Theo H's Eagle Project, 1919 La Salle Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403 - building a food shelf pantry. Message from Theo:

Help needed Saturday the 25th 12-3 pm and Sunday the 26th 1-4 pm. I would love 4-5 people for Saturday and a few more on Sunday. Saturday would be priming and painting the lumber as well as digging post holes and installing them with concrete. Sunday is putting the constructed pantry onto the posts and finishing touches. If parents are interested they are welcome as well, especially for driving scouts. Hopefully two different days doesn’t cause problems. We’ll offer lunch on Saturday. If kids need rides I can help organize one for them. Please fill out the Google form to RSVP for either day.

Thank you!

Monday May 27: No Troop meeting on Memorial Day. If you are able to help, please attend the Soldier's and Pioneer's Cemetery service hour opportunity at 8:15 AM on Monday in lieu of the normal troop meeting.

Saturday June 1: Philmont Garage Sale is planned at MUMC. We're asking the Troop to donate items toward the sale. Proceeds of the sale will support the Philmont 2025 crew. Philmont crew members should plan to be present to help with the sale. We'll send more details. If you have items to donate but cannot be there on June 1, please contact Dr. Nixon to arrange a drop-off time before the sale,

Sunday June 2: Pack 1 Crossover, Base Camp. We need a contingent of Scouts to attend the Pack 1 Blue & Gold to help welcome our newest patrol, the Half Burnt Hot Dogs. Class As, be there by 4:45 PM.

Monday June 3: Troop meeting/Swim Tests, Lake Nokomis small beach. This is our regular Troop meeting but it's also a chance to get wet. Those attending Summer Camp or Boundary Waters should be present! We're hoping to have two certified life guards on hand to approve our swim test results. (Can't make it, but going to summer camp? You can still do your annual swim test at Tomahawk.)

Monday June 10: Troop meeting, Minnehaha United Methodist Church. Plan: Tenderfoot fitness requirements + BWCA pre-trip planning.

Monday June 17: Troop meeting, Minnehaha United Methodist Church. Plan: Knots for Scout rank requirements

Monday June 24: Troop meeting, Minnehaha United Methodist Church. Plan: 2nd Class First Aid requirements

Monday July 1: Troop meeting, Lake Nokomis small beach. Plan: Swimming!

Good Scouting!

Patrol Leader's Council | Girls Troop planning | Memorial Day events

Happy Monday Troop 1!

Reminder that we have Patrol Leader's Council tonight, 6:30PM, Minnehaha United Methodist Church. This is our monthly planning meeting for the Troop. Patrol Leaders, Senior Patrol Leader, and Assistants to both should attend. Scribe should also attend. All other scouts who want to provide input on event planning are welcome.

Half Burnt Hot Dogs - if able to attend, watching the PLC in action is good practice, and your participation and input is welcome - after all, this will be YOUR troop in 2 weeks!

Adults - during the PLC we have planned a discussion of the future of Troop 5001, our (currently dormant) linked girls troop (boys are registered to 3001 - we're all Troop 1 either way). We have 4 female scouts who plan to cross over to Troop 1 a year from now, and we know more are on deck behind them! We are meeting to plan out how we want to approach the future of our troop to make sure we are providing the best experience for all of our scouts.

Scouts, don't forget about opportunities to provide service during Memorial Day weekend! If you attend one or both, please wear your Class A uniform to show your respect for our Veterans.

  • Saturday May 25, 3PM: Flag Placement at Fort Snelling National Cemetery - organized by Order of the Arrow. All scouts and community members welcome. If joining Troop 1 to place flags, email Dr. Nixon to be added to our group registration. Attendees need to bring a BSA health form (parts A and B only) if you do not yet have one on file with the troop.
  • Monday May 27, 8:15AM: Memorial Day support at Pioneers and Soldiers Cemetery. Scouts needed to help with setting out chairs, handing out programs and poppies, and placing flags along the roadway. Will send more details from the event organizer when I have them.

Good Scouting!
