8 March 2020

Troop Meeting • 6:30-8:00 • MUMC
I hope everybody had a great weekend. Monday, we'll be finishing up with our closet cleanout and advancement push. All scouts should have their handbook. Boards of Review will take place next week (19 March), so be sure to have your handbook signed off and everything squared away to show Mrs. Barber in order to request a BoR before our Court of Honor (23 March). Next week we'll be holding elections for Spring. We'll also have Order of the Arrow elections at one of our upcoming Meetings.

Court of Honor • 23 March
We are looking for an Emcee for the Court of Honor. If you're interested, and/or working on Communications MB, let Mr. Needleman know.
We'll be having a short Many Point Summer Camp meeting after the Court of Honor.
Please bring a dessert to share.

Order of the Arrow
Order of the Arrow (OA) is Scouting's National Honor Society. It's a service oriented group that meets once per month and provides cool opportunities. Most of the camporees are run by OA members. It's not advancement based, it's like a way to hang with like minded scouts from different units and do next level service. It's fun! To be in OA you must meet some requirements and be elected by your peers.
Requirements:
- First Class
15 nights camping in previous 2 years (including  5 at a long term camp)
- SM approval.
If you meet these requirements and would like to be considered for election, LMK. A representative from our local lodge will be at a meeting to conduct elections soon.

Troop 1 Website • Troop1min.org
Troop 1 has a website that can answer many of your questions.

Check the calendar, register for camps, read the SM dispatch, look at pst photo galleries, who are in leadership positions, find merit badge counselors, etc. Please take a look and click around. What do you like, what would you change? What would you like to see?

We're looking for a webmaster. This is a scout PoR, but works great when their adult also knows how to click around and some basic web skills. We use google template so it's pretty easy.

Scoutmaster Minute • How to Catch a Monkey
Anybody want to know how to catch a monkey? Well, I can tell you how they do it in India.

They take a gourd, cut a small hole in it, and then put some rice inside. Then they tie the gourd down securely and wait for the monkey.
Often Monkeys are greedy and selfish. I guess you could say anybody who is greedy and selfish is a monkey in that way. Anyway, monkeys are so greedy and selfish that they fall for the gourd trick every time.

The monkey sticks his paw into the gourd to get the rice. He grabs a handful - but then he can't get his hand out of the gourd. His fist won't go through the small hole. And he's so greedy and selfish that he won't let go of the handful of rice. He just waits there with his greedy fist wrapped around the rice until the men come and take him.

Well, you've got the moral to this story: Don't be greedy and selfish or you may make a 'monkey' of yourself.
