28 January 2019

Troop Meeting - Monday, 1/28 6:30-8:00
If the forecast snow continues tonight, and school is canceled, I am sure we can count on our Troop 1 Scouts to be up and shoveling, making quinzee piles, having epic snowball wars, etc.
If snow tapers off and the roads seem safe by 5pm, we might still meet. I'll make a call by 4pm and notify everybody via email.

We will be continuing High Adventure proposals! Last week we heard about ideas for another BWCA trip, a train trip to Zion NP and some other ideas. All these ideas need a bit more detail before we could vote.

There was a change to previously scheduled High Adventure dates.
If this presents a problem please let us know immediately.
Previously scheduled July 7 - 13
Currently Schedule August 11-18

Also, Elections for Positions of Responsibility. If you'd like to run for SPL, or PL, this is your chance. Check your calendars because these office's will be held: Feb, March, April.

Scouting Mobile App
BSA’s Information Technology Group, along with many volunteer beta testers, are excited to announce the new Scouting mobile app, which is now available for both iPhone and Android devices.
You can search for “Scouting BSA,” or click these direct links to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Scouting Mobile App makes it easier than ever for youth and their parents to view and track advancement in the Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting programs—as well as youth recognition in the Venturing program. The app pulls existing advancement data straight from Scoutbook for viewing on an enhanced user interface.

No cell service? No problem! If your Scouting Adventures take you off the grid, this app’s offline capability allows parents and youth (13 and older) to access advancement data anywhere at any time.

Once the app is downloaded, parents and youth should use their Scoutbook credentials to login. If you don’t have a Scoutbook account yet, visit Scoutbook.com to create one.

Scoutmaster's Minute
There were three fishes living in a pond. These fishes were friends and practically did everything together. One day, a fisherman came across the pond and was delighted to see so many fishes. He invited fellow fishermen, and they made plans to cast the nets.
The wisest of the fishes made plans to find a different pond. The second fish agreed, but the third fish said that the pond was home and he wouldn't leave. The third fish further said that there had never been any danger in the pond and believed the other fishes to be cowards.
The first two fish were unable to convince their friend, and so they decided to part ways.
The next day, when the fishermen cast their nets, the first two fishes escaped and the third was caught. He'd been unable to identify and act upon the problem and was now paying the price of neglecting danger.

I think we’ve all had a similar experience, so some degree.  It’s important to recognize almost every problem is different, and has a unique solution. What do you do when faced with a problem?
