Summer Camp
Camp Many Point
It's time to decide if you're planning to attend Many Point Summer Camp with the troop - which I hope you all do, it's going to be magic! Please discuss with your family and make a plan to attend. We'll be at Many Point from August 15-21. We'll be in Voyaguer Sub Camp, Two Harbors Campsite. We'll be using wall tents, and cooking all of our own food in camp. Many Point is a truly magical week. All scouts should plan to attend. It's the highlight of summer.
Please fill out this form by March 1 indicating you plan to attend.
We need to make a deposit and start planning transportation, etc.
Adults, as always, if you can spend part (or all) of your week with us, or just help with transporting scouts drive up or back, that'd be awesome. Please consider it. We'll work on transportation later, but know that it's about a 5-hour drive one way, so plan to stay at least one night... Many Point is located near Ponsford MN, very close to the Mississippi Headwaters.

Scoutmaster's Minute
This is a story I adapted from a friend of mine.
The Porcupine: a story about the balance of Intentions and Impact.
Once there was a porcupine who just wanted to be loved. But every time she bumped into somebody, they recoiled from being pricked by her spines. At first, the porcupine felt sad because, regardless of what happened, she had the best of intentions. But as time went on, the porcupine became disgruntled.
“Why does everybody treat me so badly?!” she angrily asked. This was a strange question to ask because the porcupine wasn’t really interested in the answer. But getting angry did not help the situation. In fact, it only seemed to make things worse.
Then one rainy fall evening, the porcupine bumped into a rat out in the forest.
“Ow!” seethed the rat. “Watch where you’re going!
“Sorry not sorry,” blithely replied the porcupine (after so many disappointments, the porcupine was now well-armed for disappointment).
“Well aren’t you special?” sneered the rat. “You think you can just barge into folks and poke them without upsetting anybody?”
The porcupine turned and said, “You bumped into ME! Therefore I could not have possibly poked you. In fact, YOU poked me!!”
A feeling of self-satisfaction for effectively defending herself welled up in the porcupine’s heart. “Huh. That feels good. It feels good to defend myself when I've been wronged.”
The rat interrupted her self reflection by barking, “Good luck barging around with those spines out!”
“Spines?” asked the porcupine. “These spines got me to where I am today!”
“Clearly,” muttered the rat.
“What are you saying? If I didn’t have these I’d just be a spineless rat like you, wouldn’t I?”
The rat paused and turned to face the porcupine. “Those spines aren’t protecting you from your attitude."
What are you doing with your spines? How about your attitude?
If it ever comes down to being right or being Kind, be Kind, just as we promise with the Scout Law. You can always go back and be right, but leaving somebody with pain from your quills probably isn't worth it.
