22 July 2020

We had a successful PLC and came up with a basic plan for the next couple of zoom meetings centered around Cooking Merit Badge. We also plan to do some hikes for Hiking Merit Badge
•  Saturday (7/25/20) 9am - we'll take a hike.
•  Monday (7/27/20) 7pm - we'll meet via zoom (meeting ID & passcode in email) and discuss our progress on Cooking MB and our experience with the included recipe.

Emergency Preparedness MB Follow Up
A few scouts have reached out about E-Prep. If you believe you've finished with the E-Prep requirements. Reach out and we can discuss the remainder via zoom.

One thing we did not get done was 6c - you'll need to do that on your own: Find out who is your community’s emergency management director and learn what this person does to prevent, protect, mitigate, respond to, and recover from emergency situations in your community. Discuss this information with your counselor, utilizing the information you learned from requirement 2b.

Hiking MB
We'll start hiking this Saturday at 9am. All scouts working the MB need to plan a 5 mile route starting at MUMC - we'll choose one and take it. We'll start at MUMC at 9am and plan to return by 12. It takes scouts about 2.5 - 3 hours to hike 5 miles. FYI - The next few hikes will be 5 miles.

All participants must wear a mask and we'll keep a distance. Family members are welcome. Parking at MUMC may be tricky because of the food shelf. Perhaps park on 38th or on the North side of 50th.

You may want a daypack with a water bottle and snack. Wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather - I usually wear my Class A or a Class B Troop 1 shirt. I like hiking in my Class A so that way people know who we are.

I have an old Merit Badge Pamphlet available for your viewing. The requirements have slightly changed regarding the duration of hikes. I think this website is almost better, you choose.

Cooking MB
If you're interested in working on the MB with the troop please use the workbook so you can track your progress. We will do some of it together, but some needs done on your own.
If you don't have the current Merit Badge Pamphlet, this website is almost better

Working on Cooking MB or not, experiment preparing the recipe brought to us by Finn Nixon, PL of Electric Llamas.

For Monday:
Please Prepare the Pasta and Sauce recipe and evaluate it and have your eaters evaluate it here. Scouts also need to evaluate their culinary effort. Scouts may need to make some adaptations for dietary restrictions, including allergies and intolerances.

Plan 3 days of Meals (use the workbook).
Feel free to use the Troop 1 Patrol Cookbookthe included Pasta & Sauce recipe above, or find your own recipes.

I hope these start showing up on menus when we start camping again!
