Troop Meeting • Monday, 6:30-8:00pm • MUMC
I hope everybody spent a little time completing some final sales of wreaths and popcorn this weekend. I bet lack of a Vikings game made people happier to answer the door and find well dressed & cheerful scouts peddling goods. I also hope you spent a minute raking and doing a good turn cleaning out the storm drain or raking for your neighbor - something to think about in the days ahead.
At the troop meeting tonight we'll be doing pioneering basics and deciding on what kind of tower we'll build at our Pioneering Boot Camp the Collopy Farm.
Tonight = Pioneering Books, Knots & Lashings.
Halloween Party Recap
Thanks to everybody that helped at the Pack 1 Halloween Party a success. I think the scouts in the pack had a great time; it looked to me like our scouts were having fun too. Traffic seemed like it was down a bit overall this year, this may have been for a wide variety of reasons but the troop still made a little north of $300 to help with our bottom line. Special thanks to Jim Sharpsteen for running & coordinating the concessions. Also thanks to Kate Needleman for donating use of a $250 Thrivent Action Team grant to help the troop (Jim) purchase the concession items.
Wreaths & Popcorn
Orders and Money are due at the troop meeting tonight!
A checklist to speed up the check-in process:
• Double check your totals
• Separate money - wreaths & popcorn
• Write scout name on order forms
• Verify popcorn orders entered in the Trail’s End app for accuracy

November 8-10 • Pioneering Boot Camp • Collopy Farm
Based on some PLC decisions, we have decided to change things up a little this year. We'll still be at Kiwanis, but our gaming will take place in Gordon Hall!
Sign up to Camp at the Collopy Farm. We were there last spring and had a blast. This time we're avoiding fish hooks.
Here's a link to our Troop Pioneering Booklet. This was put together by Scoutmaster CG himself, Clarke Green.

There will be plenty of room for us to leave our games up and move on to something else. We'll be sleeping and "cooking" elsewhere.

Register for Scouting in 2020
You may have recently received mail about fees for Scouting going up. They're not going up for us in Metro Lakes District. They're going up for the rest of the council. That said, nobody is turned away for an inability to pay the full amount.
If you don't register before the January 1, things get messy with getting dropped from our roster, etc. Please don't make extra work for our volunteers.
If you don't plan to continue in Troop 1 next year, please reach out and let me know.
Scoutmaster Corps and Committee Registrations are paid for and handled by the troop - thanks for volunteering, you don't need to register yourself.
Please get registered for 2020, ASAP

Scoutmaster's Minute - A Leader needs Follower(s)
We're often taught that to be yourself and don't be a follower, which isn't a bad message but it needs to be approached in context. If we were all just selfishly doing our own thing all the time, nothing would get done. More often than not, in order to complete tasks we need leadership, sometimes that's the person upfront (leading from the front), sometimes that's those willing to follow the leader (leading from behind, being a "team player"). In Scouts, most often it's both.
