Monday is a PLC meeting but scouts looking for service hours that are otherwise not involved in the PLC can show up to help Pack 1 with their Pinewood Derby Car build night. Wear your Class B, and represent the troop. Practice your extrovert skills and the Pack 1 adults lead the Cub Scouts to another successful race day - you might even offer some pointers based on your experience!
Snow Base was Awesome
Check out some pictures. Add some of your own if you have them. We had two crews, and the pictures automatically end up in chronological order, but maybe it will help with some stories. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ynoyAYKvXHz4BSkU9
Troop 1 Website • Troop1min.org
Troop 1 has a website that can answer many of your questions.
Check the calendar, register for camps, read the SM dispatch, look at pst photo galleries, who are in leadership positions, find merit badge counselors, etc. Please take a look and click around. What do you like, what would you change? What would you like to see?
We're looking for a webmaster. This is a scout PoR, but works great when their adult also knows how to click around and some basic web skills. We use google template so it's pretty easy.
Many Point • Summer Camp
Week 8 • Aug 9-Aug 15
Program Sign-Up Due March 24 (after Court of Honor)
Many Point runs Sunday to Saturday, a bit different than Tomahawk. That's not all that's different. Northern Star Council has worked hard to ensure these summer camps are unique.
We'll be staying at Two Harbors campsite in Voyageur Sub-Camp. Different than summers at Tomahawk when we ate in the dining hall, we'll be cooking as patrols, and preparing all of our meals at our campsite.
Youth Leadership at Camp
Being SPL at Many Point is a crown jewel of leadership - akin to being crew chief at Philmont. Tomahawk is more of a Troop-based experience and SPL is in charge at camp. Many Point ratchets this up a notch with our patrol-based camping and cooking. Patrol Leader and SPL become the most important jobs. PLs make camp happen in camp, and SPL makes camp happen throughout the Sub-Camp. One thing that will make this camp a success is strong youth leadership. Getting to lead "non-stop" for a week is an awesome opportunity. Start thinking now about if you're interested in being Patrol Leader SPL for this experience. SPL attends a daily leadership class instead of 1 merit badge session. Elections for this will be in June.
Troop 1 Summer Camp Adult Survey - We're trying to figure out exactly which adults will be in camp, when they'll be there, and our ability to transport Scouts to and from camp. If we're unable to come up with enough adults to transport our Troop, we'll need to add an expense of bus or van rental.
Family Camp - If you'd like to have a family vacation while your scout is at Camp, consider Family camp. By all reports its an awesome time. They have cabins stocked with kitchen items, you bring the food. There are also RV sites and tent sites. They provide program, lots of program. The Troop would invite you over to camp for dinner and an evening campfire, at least once during the week. If you're interested, don't hesitate to make your reservations, these openings will fill up fast.

Many Scouts have been working on Reptil and Amphibian Study MB. Last year we hosted a counselor before our trip and many scouts have been caring for reptiles or studying them over the past year. If you're interested in completing the Merit Badge,

Scoutmaster Minute • Failing can be OK
President Abraham Lincoln once said, “My greatest concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.”
It's ok for you to try your best at something and still not meet the mark. This type of failure is an opportunity. It still might not feel great, but at least you know what to work on.
Failing because you haven't really tried or you're not feeling like putting in the effort needed to succeed is a different story. It might be simple or it might be self-sabotage because you don't want to deal with something else. Are you afraid? Are you too distracted? Are you avoiding something?
