• Distributing pre-ordered Tomahawk Class B shirts.

• Running Shoes - if you want to do the Rootbeer 5K
• Review safety and Bear procedures
Sharing cooking ideas for Wednesday dinner in Camp - cooking by patrol.

We have 3 boards of review scheduled - Scouts should be in their best uniforms with a neckerchief, sash, etc. - make sure to have your Handbook!!!

Gear Spotlight - Plastic Shoebox (for Bear Box)
To keep the Bears (and minibears) safe and away from our tents and camp we keep all of our smellables in a Steel Bear Box located in camp. We want to be safe too.
To keep the inside of this box organized scouts will need a LABELED plastic box to put their smellables in. Plastic Shoeboxes work great. Target has them on sale for 89¢.
BWCA Crews MTG • TONIGHT (Sunday 7/21) 6:30-8pm
Review:
–What is needed from the personal packing list?
–Each crew has elected a First Aid Corpsman working to make a crew first aid kit.
–Review & Explore Menu ideas. Remember no cans or bottles are allowed into the BWCA. Each crew will have their own menus.
–MSR Whisperlite Stoves Tutorial
–Review Crew Gear Needs
– Select Color for Crew Shirts
– Pass out outfitter Liability Agreements
– Packing for the BWCA - Scouts need a way to carry their personal gear and keep it dry. I'll demonstrate the 5 gallon bucket / Army Duffle Method, and show a basic Duluth Pack. Note: backpacking bags can work, but they can get a little wonky in the canoes, just be sure to pack everything into heavy-duty garbage bags, ziplocks or dry bags.

Scoutmaster's Minute - Goose Sense
But do you know why when geese fly in a V formation in the first place? I learned this in my favorite movie, Winged Migration.
As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in V formation, the whole flock greatly increases its flying range by reducing the amount of work each bird needs to do. If a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird ahead of it.
If we have as much sense as a goose, we will stay in formation with those who are headed the same way we are. People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going more easily because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
When the V formation's lead goose gets tired, it rotates back in the V and another goose flies the point. We should each take on the extra work of leading in our turn to benefit the group.
Geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed. They aren't yelling at them - they are encouraging them and trying to help them along because they know they will soon be in that position.
If we have the sense of a goose, we will support each other, encourage each other, and lead in our turn.
